Kilimanjaro Sponsored Mountain Climb in Aid of African Orphans UK

Denise Shaw a conservation and voluntary worker from Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in Feb 07 to raise funds for African Orphans UK.

This was a huge challenge for Denise. A trek of 45 miles, climbing to an altitude of approximately 6km above sea level where the thin air contains only 50% of the oxygen found at sea level.

Kilimanjaro. The ‘Shining Mountain’. Towering over the plains, this 5,895m mountain is home to leopards, monkeys, and, according to ancient mythology, the demon Njaro who dances at the summit.

Denise says, I can’t tell you how excited I am about raising money for the African Orphans Uk charity! Especially after reading about the work that has already been achieved from other sponsored events. The prospect of helping these children in Arusha will be an honour and privilege. I  visited the new Orphanage that African Orphans UK had just opened in Arusha, when I was out there and enjoyed the stay.

Denise completed the climb(yes all the way to the top) and raised a total of £1465. A big thank you and well done Denise
