Nurses 20 mile sponsored walk
With temperatures of 32oC on Tuesday 25th July 2006, seven student nurses from Bassetlaw General Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary who study together at Sheffield University walked 20 miles from the Doncaster Hospital to Bassetlaw Hospital in10.5 hours. On the way numerous motorists stopped to offer support and donations, one motorist even doubled back to the nurses with bottles of chilled water and ice lollies Many onlookers gave donations to the nurses as they walked raising over £230 to add to their sponsorship money. This took the total to over £1,200 raised. The walkers finally arrived at Bassetlaw Hospital at 6.45pm to the cheers from a group of supporters. People can rest assured that all funds donated will go directly to the Orphans in Arusha, Tanzania to open a new home for children who are presently living in squalid conditions.
African Orphans UK have been supporting children in Arusha, paying for food, education and medical needs for a number of years.
We are now able to move some of the children into a new home thanks to the efforts of the student nurses from Sheffield University.
